Google is taking its campaign to promote its Chrome Web browser up a notch, sealing an alliance with Sony to have the Web browser pre-installed on some Sony notebook computers.

Apple WebKit engineer named co-chair of HTML Working Group: Maciej Stachowiak, from Apple, will now be helping steer HTML5 as part of the W3C’s HTML Working Group. We can hope this means a focus on WebKit’s priorities for HTML5 like improved offline storage, background workers, and geo location.

As a follow-up to last week's post, here are ten things I dislike about social media, in no particular order.

One of the hardest jobs I ever had was working as a day camp counselor, spending eight summers straight at Beth El Summer Session in New Rochelle, NY. While it's been a few years since I wore a T-shirt and swimsuit to work every day, seeing all the kids home from camp swarming around Madison Square Park this week brought back a few memories. It also made me realize how relevant a lot of what I learned in that job is to what I'm doing now.

Introducing KitMate: TextMate + WebKit: This project seems to be in its early stages (is that screenshot in Tiger?!), but the overall idea is nice: Creating a hybrid or Textmate and WebKit for quick, streamlined development. Would love to see a smoother, native implementation of this in Textmate, ala CSSEdit’s live preview.

- Torch Mobile, the company behind the WebKit-based Iris browser, has been acquired by RIM, makers of the BlackBerry. The current BlackBerry browser is infamous for its many downfalls, so this is great news for both users and developers.
